I was living as a Homeless Woman in Portland, Oregon from 2011 to 2015. I lived in and out three different shelters for Women that were open at that time for 3 years and then 2 years of actually living on the streets of downtown Portland. But while I was homeless I decided to make yet another major change. I decided to go get a college education to help me better my life and get out of that situation. That's what I did. I got a college education even though my circumstances were not ideal while attending college. I inspired my instructors, my classmates, those who work with the homeless community, other homeless people. My determination, positive attitude and positive outlook and MY FAITH, are what got me through. It WASN'T an easy task to do, especially when you are homeless you have watch your back, homeless people steal from other homeless people. I had to protect my books, keep them from getting stolen or wet. I had to do my homework, sitting under the Steel Bridge with a flashlight reading chapters and writing papers. But I did it every night. Every day that I had classes I came in early to the computer lab to type and print my papers, make PowerPoint presentations, catch up on more reading, writing and getting help with my math classes.
I did it though, it definitely was not easy. I was determined not to let my circumstances dictate my life. I was on the College Honor List twice and College Presidents List once. I graduated with 7 different certificates. Graduation Day was a very emotional moment and day for me. I made it. I walked across that stage with my head held high. I OVERCAME being homeless in September 2015. I have a nice one bedroom apartment.
Now I am focusing on helping other women, who have gone through major changes, and overcome them.
I am currently taking Certification online classes in Certified Master Transformational Coach Certification and Professional Life Coach Certification. My FOCUS is on 40-60 year old women who have gone through major changes, overcome them, but don't know what to do next.
I help these other women figure that out, through guidance and a partnership with them to help keep them accountable for their actions and choices they make, to inspire them by sharing my own personal experience with a particular major change that they are going through, to motivate them to want to transform themselves and their future in a more positive supportive way starting from the Inside Out.
I help these other women become a better person starting from the Inside Out.
I have written my "Life As A Homeless Woman " story it's a journey of woman's struggle of being homeless and experiences that she went through but she triumphs by getting a college education even though her circumstances were not ideal while attending college, graduating with 7 different certificates. She OVERCAME BEING HOMELESS September 2015. She has been living in a nice one bedroom apartment.
Have a great weekend Everyone,
Kimberly Lathrop,
Owner And Transformational Coach and Life Coach of GRACE from the Inside Out
